Home Improvement: Kitchen Improvements ? Comic Cleaning

You give conceive that the age of kitchen doors are made from MDF and are vinyl enwrapped. This appendage is mainly because it is very cost economical than purchase coagulated wood doors. I am exploit to vindicate how these Medium-Density Wallboard (MDF) doors are made.

Your new equal kitchen doors begin gift move off as one tack of 2600mm by 2000mm MDF, the thickness existence 18mm. The business of your doors faculty mortal thousands of these MDF sheets which are ripe laminated with a club cereal outcome or black melamine impressible ? oft victimized in offices and schools. The alkali impressible tiled sides give be the backs of the doors.

Firstly the MDF sheets are set melamine tiled surface consume low a machine limited tool ripe to be routed. The desired filler is then signaling in the machine. Any size of entryway can be prefab, not honorable regulation sized doors, for information the superlative of your entry is 710mm and the breadth is 498mm, this is entered into the tool and the doors will be prefabricated to that perfect size.

The following outgrowth is choosing the entryway decoration. The desirable arrangement is entered into the advise of the art machine. Kitchen entry designs can very, the doors can be routed with a decorative cathedral tool entrance, a Shaker name with a hollow panel, a unmixed slab arrangement with a bevelled bound, amongst galore others. Tyler Seguin?s Twitter mess not a ringing endorsement

Ex-Bruin Tyler Seguin?s controversial homophobic tweet could cost him lucrative endorsement deals as he struggles to establish himself in a new market, and is just the latest example of the perils of social media for athletes, social media and sports marketing experts said.

Seguin?s tweet, referencing a profanity-laced ?Full Metal Jacket? quote about Texas, drew immediate backlash despite the fact it was deleted almost instantly, but screenshots and retweets remain all over the Internet. The reaction prompted the new Dallas Star to delete his Twitter account, blaming ?hackers.?

Seguin, trying to establish a marketing presence in Dallas, may have just scared off any opportunities he may have had, said Stephen A. Greyser, a Harvard Business School professor and sports marketing expert. Greyser said Seguin has not risen to the level of superstar that would allow him to weather this incident.

?Why take a chance on a person who is still potential rather than high performance, is new in the market and has issues not only of talent but of character?? Greyser said.

Kim Zayotti of Blue Sky Sports & Entertainment, a Norwell agency that represents Dustin Pedroia and Zdeno Chara, said social media has become a crucial part of an athlete?s marketability, but it?s ?hazardous.?

David Gerzof Richard, president of Big Fish Communications and a social media professor at Emerson College, agreed.

?(Athletes) have a direct channel, their own personal soapbox. They can get into trouble.?

Trades, new contracts become official around NBA

Just about every NBA team would like Dwight Howard.

Only the Houston Rockets could get him, and on Wednesday some of his other suitors either announced their backup plans or were still working on them.

Paul Millsap is headed to Atlanta. The Dallas Mavericks are considering Andrew Bynum. The Golden State Warriors have acquired Andre Iguodala.

The Los Angeles Clippers never had to look beyond their top target, with Chris Paul committing to stay on the first day of free agency. They also added Darren Collison, Jared Dudley and J.J. Redick to a team that won the Pacific Division last season, surpassing the Lakers as the best team in Los Angeles.

It's hard to see that changing after Howard passed on re-signing with the Lakers and instead opted for the Rockets in a deal that still hadn't become official as of Wednesday night.

That was the first day transactions could be completed and contacts signed following the completion of the NBA's moratorium period. The Rockets couldn't wait to talk about their All-Star center, getting fined $150,000 by the league on Tuesday for premature comments about Howard on TV and in social media.

The rest of the league waited until rules allowed Wednesday.

The Clippers held a press conference for Paul, the three new players and the re-signed Matt Barnes and Ryan Hollins on what Paul called "one of the biggest days in franchise history."

While they were celebrating, Bynum was meeting with Dallas, another team that wanted Howard.

Bynum was part of the four-team trade that sent Howard from Orlando to Los Angeles last summer, but never played a game for Philadelphia because of knee problems. The Cleveland Cavaliers have already offered him a contract, and the Mavericks are weighing the risk.

"At this point, we're having medical discussions and we'll have the opportunity to get with him and his agent and better understand the risks involved and make a good decision for our franchise," said Donnie Nelson, the team's president of basketball operations. "Currently, we still need help and support in our front court and we're going to turn over every stone."

Charlotte got bigger by adding former Utah center Al Jefferson, while his former Jazz teammate Millsap is also bound for the Southeast Division with the Hawks.

Atlanta missed out on Howard, and forward Josh Smith left for a $54 million, four-year deal with Detroit, but the Hawks bounced back by giving Millsap a two-year, $19 million contract.

The Jazz also got involved in the deal that landed Iguodala with the Warriors, who gave him a four-year, $48 million deal last week. Golden State cleared more than $24 million by sending Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins and Brandon Rush to the Jazz along with four draft picks and cash. Denver received guard Randy Foye from the Jazz.

Chris Andersen signed a $1.7 million, one-year deal to stay with the Miami Heat, who will have to hold off some stronger challengers next season in the Eastern Conference. Indiana re-signed power forward David West and added C.J. Watson as a backup point guard, while the Chicago Bulls improved their outside shooting by signing Mike Dunleavy.

The New York Knicks hope they did, too, with the acquisition of Andrea Bargnani. However, the former No. 1 overall pick from Italy struggled during an injury-plagued 2012-13 season for the Toronto Raptors, who shipped him to New York for Steve Novak, Quentin Richardson, Marcus Camby and three future draft picks.

The NBA's other big deal of the offseason, the trade sending Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from Boston to Brooklyn, will be completed Friday. The Nets could pay more than $70 million in taxes in the first season of the NBA's harsher penalties for teams who exceed the limit.

Apple Inc e-book ruling says firm conspired to raise prices

NEW YORK ? In a decision that could reshape how books are sold on the Internet, a federal judge ruled that Apple Inc conspired to raise the retail prices of e-books in violation of antitrust law, and called for a trial on damages.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Denise Cote in Manhattan is a victory for the U.S. government and various states, which the judge said are entitled to injunctive relief.

Apple had been accused of colluding with five publishers to boost e-book prices beginning in late 2009, as the Silicon Valley giant was preparing to launch its popular iPad tablet.

The U.S. Department of Justice said this conspiracy was designed to undercut online retailer Amazon.com Inc?s dominance of the fast-growing e-books market.

Only Apple went to trial, while the publishers ? Lagardere SCA?s Hachette Book Group Inc and Macmillan, News Corp?s HarperCollins Publishers LLC, Pearson Plc?s Penguin Group (USA) Inc and CBS Corp?s Simon & Schuster Inc ? settled with the U.S. government and the states.

Cote said the conspiracy resulted in prices for some e-books rising to US$12.99 or US$14.99, when Amazon had sold for US$9.99.

?The plaintiffs have shown that the publisher defendants conspired with each other to eliminate retail price competition in order to raise e-book prices, and that Apple played a central role in facilitating and executing that conspiracy,? Cote said.

?Without Apple?s orchestration of this conspiracy, it would not have succeeded as it did in the spring of 2010,? she added.

Apple said in a statement it will appeal the judge?s decision.

?Apple did not conspire to fix e-book pricing and we will contniue to fight against these false accusations,? the statement said.

?When we introduced the iBooks store in 2010, we gave customers more choice, injecting much needed innovation and competition into the market, breaking Amazon?s monopolistic grip on the publishing industry.?

Cote issued her 159-page decision after a non-jury trial that ended on June 20.

The case is U.S. v. Apple Inc et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 12-02826.

SpaceX shows off new nav gear with latest Grasshopper rocket launch-and-landing (video)

DNP SpaceX tests new rocket, totally sticks the landing

We've been watching as the SpaceX Grasshopper's leap has grown higher and higher with each successive launch (and landing!), and the rocket's flights never fail to impress. The reusable spacecraft's latest test is no exception: this time, the 'hopper sailed past its previous 840 feet record, stopping at 1,066 feet. According to the company, the launch had a "more precise" landing thanks to new sensors that measure distance between the ground and the vessel. It shows. The touch-down is both noticeably smoother than previous efforts and drama free compared to Russia's explosive incident in Kazakhstan. The private spaceflight company's latest video is after the break -- do yourself a favor and watch it in HD.

Dodgers hammer Cain, beat up on Giants

BOX SCORE

SAN FRANCISCO ?- Your eyes did not deceive you.

That was indeed Matt Cain on the mound Friday night. It only seemed like an impostor snuck into the clubhouse, slipped on his orange jersey and found his way to the pitcher?s mound.

On a night the Giants badly needed their longtime ace to come through, Cain fell flat.

He was tagged for eight runs in a season-low 2 1/3 innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers clobbered the Giants 10-2 in the opener of a three-game series at AT&T Park.

It was supposed to be a night to turn the page. Instead, the Giants fell deeper into a hole they dug with their just-completed 1-8 road trip.

The Dodgers batted around in a six-run top of the third that broke the game open. Cain was on the mound for five of those runs, and he also got charged with the RBI single that George Kontos allowed to Los Angeles pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to cap the rally.

Former Giant Juan Uribe, still garnering boos at AT&T Park for signing with the Dodgers after the 2010 season, had a monster night with seven RBI.

The Giants sank to seven games under .500. They?ve dropped 10 of their last 11 and 15 of their last 19.

Searching for answers?

So is Giants manager Bruce Bochy.

Starting pitching report
No one could have seen this coming from Cain.

He entered the night with a 1.82 ERA since June 2, the third-lowest ERA in the majors among starting pitchers over that span. He also sported a 1.93 ERA in his previous 11 starts against the Dodgers, making it seem like the Giants were running the right man to the hill.

But Cain (5-5) simply lacked command. He walked four, which was bizarre considering he had issued just three walks over his previous four starts combined.

After an easy first inning, Cain walked two and allowed two runs in the second. Then the roof caved in the third.

Yasiel Puig, playing his first game at AT&T Park, led off with a double. He scored on Hanley Ramirez?s single. A.J. Ellis added another run-scoring single. Then with the bases loaded, Uribe hit a low liner to left that got past a diving Cole Gillespie, clearing the bases and ending Cain?s night.

Cain?s ERA jumped from 4.29 to 4.85, and most disturbing was how badly he missed with so many of his pitches. He used up 75 pitches in just 2 1/3 innings.

Bullpen report
It was thankless work for the relief corps to bring this one to the finish line. Kontos, Mike Kickham and Jake Dunning went the final 6 2/3 innings and allowed two runs. The Giants have nine games remaining without a day off leading into the All-Star break, and it?s not good that Bochy had to burn through his bullpen so early Friday night.

At the plate
The lack of hitting got overshadowed by Cain?s struggles, but this punchless offense remains a concern.

The Giants collected eight hits, giving them just 15 over the past four games.

There were some bad sequences Friday. Ryu (7-3) put the first two batters aboard in the bottom of the first and walked two in the inning, but the Giants scratched out just one run on Hunter Pence's RBI fielder?s choice.

In the third, they put runners on second and third with one out. Cleanup man Buster Posey popped up and Pence took a called third strike down the middle.

That?s disheartening, even when you already trail 8-1.

In the field
Gillespie, called up earlier in the day from Triple-A, said before the game he likes diving for balls in an all-out effort to help his pitchers. He hit the turf in the third on Uribe?s liner to left and came up empty on the bases-clearing triple.

The Giants epitomized their night with two errors on a single play in the seventh. First baseman Brandon Belt misplayed a grounder off the bat of Mark Ellis. The ball deflected to second baseman Tony Abreu, who threw wildly to first for the second error.

The adventures weren?t limited to the home team. Puig, playing AT&T Park?s tricky right field for the first time, showed his inexperience in the bottom of the third. Sandoval drove ball off the right field wall that bounded away from Puig, who wasn?t ready for the ricochet.

The Cuban sensation went 1-for-5 with a run, and he?ll find out Saturday whether Bochy picked him for the National League All-Star team.

[RELATED: Puig's All-Star status]

Attendance
The crowd of 41,911 surely expected a more competitive game than they got. But those wearing Blue and White didn?t walk away disappointed.

Up next
Madison Bumgarner rode to the rescue in his last start, delivering the Giants to their only victory on their last road trip. He?s needed again to stop the bleeding Saturday. Bumgarner (8-5, 3.08) has allowed just eight earned runs over his last 33 innings (five starts). He?ll oppose Stephen Fife (3-2, 2.83) in a 4:15 p.m. matchup on FOX.

Pye delivers keynote address at International Congress on Glass

Home > Press > Pye delivers keynote address at International Congress on Glass

Abstract:
L. David Pye, dean and professor of glass science emeritus at Alfred University (AU), delivered the keynote address at the 23rd International Congress on Glass July 1 in Prague, the Czech Republic.

Alfred, NY | Posted on July 5th, 2013

In his address, "Glass and the Nanotechnology Paradigm," Pye explored how some of the major developments in glass science were, in fact, milestones in the advent of the nanotechnology era.

"Nanoscale science and engineering have become arguably the foremost conduit for focusing on how modern materials are viewed, fabrication, characterized and utilized throughout society," said Pye, who received his B.S. degree from Alfred University in 1959, and his Ph.D. from AU in 1968.

"Glass is the quintessential nanotech material," said Pye, who was a founding director of the National Science Foundation's Industry-University Center for Glass Research at Alfred University. Pye was also instrumental in creating the doctoral degree in glass science at AU, making the University the only institution in the United States and only the third in the world to offer the degree.

Long before nanotechnology became a buzzword, glass scientists were working on microcrack theory, amorphous phase separation, photosensitivity, photonucleation, ligand field theory, controlled crystallization, ion-exchange and resolution of glass theory, all processes that occur at the nano-level.

"Our understanding of glass at the nanoscale level has led to some remarkable applications in such diverse fields as energy, medicine, photonics, architecture, transportation and communications," Pye noted, saying his address focused on "the origin and growth of the nanotechnology paradigm," showing its "connection to both historical and modern-day glass science theory, and potential future applications of glass."

Pye retired after a 34-year career at Alfred University as a professor and administrator.

He is past president of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), and the American Ceramic Society. He is an honorary member of the German Society of Glass Technology, honorary fellow of the British Society of Glass Technology and a distinguished life member of the American Ceramic Society.

Pye has received numerous awards, including the ICG's President's Award for Lifetime Achievements and the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Scholarship and Creativity. He currently serves as founding editor of the International Journal of Applied Glass Science, and is an aspiring stained glass artist.
