Marriage contingent in Bud Billiken Parade

The Illinois Unites for Marriage Equality contingent in the Bud Billiken Parade, with lots of volunteers from Lambda Legal, March on Springfield for Marriage Equality and others handing out materials for Illinois Unites and the Oct. 22 March. The response was generally very positive.

The Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic is the oldest and largest African American parade in the United States, and is held each August on the city's South Side.

What You Should Know Before Buying Olive Oil

Most of us probably don't give much thought to buying a bottle of olive oil. It's just like picking up any other cooking oil, isn't it? It's all the same, so the best thing to do, clearly, is just buy from whoever is selling it cheapest.

Click here to see the What You Should Know Before Buying Olive Oil (Slideshow)

Well, not quite. Olive oil comes in different grades ? like the popular extra-virgin, for example ? and even within a particular grade, quality can vary widely. And there are many factors which influence the level of quality of an oil, including everything from the type of olive (or olives, in the case of blends) used to make the oil and when it was harvested, to how it was handled during processing and shipping, and even the type of bottle in which the oil is contained.

These days, too, with all of the cases of food fraud surfacing, it's understandable to be concerned with the provenance of one's ingredients. It is hurtful to us as consumers not to know whether we are really getting what we pay for. Olive oil, unfortunately, has been one product that has been in the spotlight with respect to food fraud for some time. A widely cited study of supermarket extra-virgin olive oils led by Dan Flynn, executive director of the UC Davis Olive Center, found that 69 percent of the oils tested were flawed and did not meet the criteria for the extra-virgin grade. And the practice of "watering down" olive oils with cheaper vegetable oils is also a major problem. Disturbing, to be sure, but certainly there must be a way to fight back.

For some simple tips and advice on buying olive oil, read on to the slideshow.

Ecuador striker Christian Benitez dies in Qatar, according to the Al Jaish football club

DOHA, Qatar - Ecuador striker Christian Benitez died Monday, a day after playing in a match for Qatari club El Jaish, the team said.

The club said the 27-year-old Benitez, who moved from Mexican club America to play in Qatar this year, died Monday but provided no further details.

"The club would like to offer its sincere condolences to the family of the player," the club said in a statement. "His sudden departure is a big shock for each member of the technical and administrative staff. He was a player that over the short period he was here was regarded for his high moral character."

El Jaish played Qatar Sports on Sunday in the Sheik Jassim Cup, a warm-up tournament for the upcoming football season. Benitez, who also spent a season in England with Birmingham, was in the lineup.

The match was played in hot and humid conditions, which are typical of the Persian Gulf at this time of year.

"The player participated for the first time with the team during yesterday's match against Qatar Sports Club in the Sheik Jassim Cup without complaining of any health problems," the club said.

Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup and the searing temperatures have prompted many former football stars as well as FIFA President Sepp Blatter to call for the competition to be moved to the cooler, winter months. Blatter plans to ask FIFA's executive committee later this year to move it.

AP Source: Obama to meet with Mideast negotiators

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A White House official says President Barack Obama will meet Tuesday morning with Israeli and Palestinian negotiators involved in a new round of peace talks.

The meeting was to happen at the White House as a second day of talks overseen by the State Department was getting underway.

The Washington negotiations are the result of Secretary of State John Kerry's six months of furious shuttle diplomacy. A previous Obama administration effort to restart stalled talks collapsed quickly in 2010.

The official insisted on anonymity in order to confirm the meeting before it was formally announced.

7 injured, 3 of them critically, after fiery blasts rock Florida propane plant

A series of explosions engulfed a propane plant in flames in Tavares, Florida, late Monday. This photo was taken at 11.36 p.m. from a location between 1-2 miles from the blast.

A combination of human error and equipment failure might have caused a series of explosions that engulfed a propane plant in flames in Tavares, Fla., late Monday, injuring eight people and forcing evacuations for a half-mile around the scene, authorities said.

The explosions began as a fire spread through the Blue Rhino plant,?near Orlando,?about 10:30 p.m. ET, Lake County sheriff's Lt. John Herrell told reporters early Tuesday.

Plant officials say all employees of the plant are accounted for. All of those injured were in the plant when the fire started.

Tavares Fire Chief?Richard Keith said Tuesday morning that sabotage is not expected. The fire marshal is on site to do a full investigation.?

Residents of the area told NBC station WESH of Orlando that flames from the explosions could be seen for several miles, but there were no reports of damage to the surrounding buildings. ?

Flames from the Blue Rhino propane plant in Tavares, Fla., seen from the air Monday night.

"It sounds like bombs are going off," Norma Haygood, a nearby resident, told WESH.

No deaths were immediately reported, Herrell said. Three male victims were in critical condition, the Orlando Regional Medical Center, told NBC News.?

Two were airlifted; a third was transported by ambulance. ?

Authorities initially declared a one-mile evacuation zone around the plant, but they later scaled that back to a half-mile, effective until 6 a.m. ET.?

"We feel that there is no longer any danger" to the area around the plant, Herrell said.

Twenty-four or 26 people were scheduled to work the night shift at the 33,000-acre facility, according to plant managers, Herrell said. Authorities initially said 15 people were unaccounted for, but Herrell later said the company's management said that they had accounted for all of the people it knew were in the plant at the time of the initial explosion.

Some of them showed up at others location, according to Blue Rhino, Herrell said. He said he had no further information on where the others were.

The plant housed about 53,000 20-pound propane cylinders, Herrell said.

"They store the propane cylinders on different parts of the property, and as the fire spread, there were more and more explosions," he said.?

Explosions continued until 1 a.m. ET Tuesday, roughly 2? hours after the first blasts were reported.

Don Ingram, former plant production supervisor at the plant, said his son felt one of the explosions in their home 6 miles away.

Ingram told WESH that the back area of the plant is "lined with propane tanks stacked four or five high on plastic pallets."

"I don't think you fight this fire," he said. "It's just too dangerous."

Blue Rhino is a subsidiary of Ferrellgas Partners, the second-largest distributor of propane in the U.S.
